Root Canal Treatment Explained

In this video, Raymond G. Hatland, DDS, explains how he evaluates when a root canal is appropriate and why some teeth can still be saved with careful treatment.

I perform root canals, but I don’t recommend them for every tooth. Some teeth are too far gone or have been nonvital for too long, and in those cases, I don’t believe the tooth can return to a healthy, nontoxic state. However, for teeth that are still semi-vital or in the process of dying, a root canal can be a successful, long-lasting option.

Although many holistic dentists avoid root canals entirely, I believe too many teeth are being removed unnecessarily. A well-performed, healthy root canal can function for 20 to 25 years. I treat molars and all other teeth, and I focus on thoroughly removing infection from both the main canal and the tiny tubules within the tooth structure.

If you have persistent tooth pain or discomfort that keeps returning, you should have it evaluated promptly. I’d be happy to examine the tooth and guide you through your options.
